Good questions
Both block UV. A regular sun shirt turns that energy into heat. Halo FS1 converts part of it into red and near-infrared light, so you get 30%+ more red light and stay 4°F+ cooler. Every color is UPF 50+.
No. It wears like a good performance shirt: lightweight, soft and breathable. UV2RED is in the fiber, with no coating, wires or batteries.
Lighter colors make the most red light. If you prefer darker colors, you'll get less, but still more than any ordinary shirt, which makes none. Every color is UPF 50+, and the Daily Forecast compares colors for where you live.
No. UV2RED is in the fiber, not a coating. Like any light-converting material, output may shift slightly over the life of the shirt. Care instructions are under Fabric & care above.
Many people who usually avoid the sun wear Halo. It's UPF 50+ and runs cooler in the sun.
The fabric technology has also been studied. In a 12-week pilot at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, published in the Journal of Dermatological Treatment, fourteen patients wore garments made with Lumiton® fiber, the conversion technology behind UV2RED. The study looked at three conditions: alopecia areata, psoriasis and polymorphous light eruption, a sun-triggered rash. Improvements were documented, and none of the participants with the sun-triggered rash flared during the study. Below is a before-and-after of one participant with psoriasis. Read the study →
